Route 66 Day Four

By Mark

Chicago – Springfield

Another early morning today, before we set off on Route 66 I go for a walk to take some photographs of the first Route 66 sign. I go to the start on Lake Shore Drive but could not see anything, in the end I find it on Adams Street.

We then embark on our road adventure, we try and follow the original Route 66 as much as possible through Chicago, the sat nav has problems getting a full signal with all the skyscrapers everywhere.

Here is a summary of what we did today:

Stopped at Whitecastle for a couple of Slyders.

Had lunch at the Lunching Pad with the Gemini Giant.

Visited the two cell jailhouse in Gardner.

Had a banana cream pie ice cream from Dairy Queen.

Stopped at the Texaco gas station at Dwight.

Stopped at the gas station in Odell.

Visited the Route 66 museum in Pontiac.

Saw the swing bridges in Pontiac

Tried to go to Funks Grove maple Sirup, but six minutes to late.

Saw the Hawes elevator, Bunyon Giant “Tall Paul”, mural and Clock tower in Atlanta.

Quick stop in Lincoln to see the court house and post office.

Finished the day in Springfield and spent the night at the Hilton hotel and had dinner at Bennigans.

Today really took a lot more time that I thought, I was hoping to make it all the way to St. Louis.
