Exploring London’s Museums and Skyline on Day 01 of our Trip.
Our journey to London began early in the morning as we caught the train from home which would be the first of many over the next 22 days. With our tickets in hand, we settled into our seats for the 2.5-hour journey to London Euston. Holly slept for most of the journey, while I took in the views outside the window.
Upon arrival, we headed to our hotel, the Premier Inn St Pancras. Although it was too early to check in, we dropped off our bags and had some breakfast to fuel up for the day ahead. We then made our way to Kings Cross underground to purchase our travel cards and begin our adventure.
Our first stop was the Science Museum, where we spent the morning exploring the space section and flight exhibit. Despite the crowds, we were able to bypass the lines thanks to our pre-booked tickets. We treated ourselves to some ice cream, which cost us over £10 but was worth it for the delicious flavors.
Next door to the Science Museum was the Natural History Museum, where we saw Dippy the dinosaur and briefly looked around for about 45 minutes. We then took the underground to the Imperial War Museum, which was Matthew’s favorite museum. We toured both the First World War and Second World War sections before stopping for lunch in the museum cafe. Our bill came to £20 for a pepperoni pizza and three drinks.
Unfortunately, Matthew developed a headache and had to take a break. We decided to skip the British Museum and headed back to the hotel room so he could have a rest. The underground ride was touch-and-go, but luckily he didn’t get sick.
After a short break, we headed to the Sky Garden, London’s largest public park with stunning views of the city skyline. We had pre-booked our tickets, so we bypassed the long queue and headed straight to the lift. We had the entire lift to ourselves as we rode up to the 45th floor. The views were incredible, and we spent about 40 minutes taking it all in.
For dinner, we headed to the Weatherspoons by Tower Bridge. Holly had a Pepperoni pizza, Matthew had fish and chips, and I had steak and chips. I had wanted a mixed grill, but unfortunately, they were missing some of the ingredients. After dinner, we walked over Tower Bridge and along the bank towards London Bridge station, where we caught the underground back to the hotel.
Back in our hotel room, we rearranged our bags and tried to get an early night. It was a busy and exciting first day in London, and we were looking forward to what the rest of our trip had in store for us.
