Peru and Easter Island Day Thirteen

Woke up at 8.00 got ready and went for breakfast by 8.30. I had pancakes with pineapple and melon as well as bread and jam. After breakfast I went for a walk around Hanga Roa and stopped off at the Post Office to get my passport stamped as they do not do this at the airport.

Peru and Easter Island Day Eleven

I wake up at about 8.30 and it is a bit of a struggle after getting in early this morning. I pack all my things and check out of the hotel. I wait in reception until 10.00 when my guide Grace comes to pick me up for my City tour of Santiago.

Peru and Easter Island Day Ten

I get up at 7.00am and prepare for my pickup at 8.00am to take me to the airport, at 8.20 I begin to worry that they are not coming for me so I call the emergency line that is in my travel pack, it turns out that one of the guides called my hotel last night and left a message to say that they will not be coming to collect me until 8.45, I did not get that message.

Peru and Easter Island Day Nine

Today is the first day this trip that I do not have to get up ridiculously early; in fact I don’t get out of bed until 10.00am!!! When I do I go for a walk around Plaza de Armas and up one of the side streets to find the 12 sided stone. When I get there I get my picture taken by it and one of the locals tells me that the stone is more famous than Michael Jackson, somehow I don’t think so.

Peru and Easter Island Day Eight

Another really early day today, I get up at 4.10 and start to get ready. When I go in the shower there is no hot water, I don’t mean that cold water is running out of the hot water tap I mean nothing is running out of the hot water tap. I decide not to have a shower today as I don’t think my body could take a freezing cold shower at this time in the morning.

Peru and Easter Island Day Seven

Another early morning again today, I get up at 4.30 and am picked up at 5.20 and taken to the train station here I board a mini bus and am taken to Piscaicucho where I will board the train to Machu Picchu. Normally you can get the train directly from Cusco but the flooding earlier in the year wiped out the tracks. So now everyone needs to take the two hour minibus drive to get the train.

Peru and Easter Island Day Six

I get ready and have a shower, I can also hear the people in the nearby rooms having a shower and going to the bathroom.

I head down for breakfast as everything is uncovered I don’t fancy any cheese or ham that a fly has been on so I settle for a banana.

Peru and Easter Island Day Five

I get up and head for breakfast again; I have the same as yesterday, bread, ham and cheese that I make a sandwich out of. I check out of the hotel and am picked up at 7.15 for a short trip to the train station, there I board the first class Andean Explorer train.

Peru and Easter Island Day Four

I get up quite early and go for breakfast at 6am, there is not much on offer just some cheese, ham and bread, which I make a few sandwiches with. I am picked up at 6.45 and taken to the port, there I board my boat for the day the “Illapa”.

Peru and Easter Island Day Two

I get up at 3.10am (yes you read that right!) as I am being picked up at 4am for a trip down to the Nazca lines. I start to get ready and at 3.30 I get a phone call, the guide is waiting for me downstairs, I put my clothes on real quick and stumble out the room. I have to admit I am a bit annoyed about him arriving the 30 minutes early as I did not get chance to get ready correctly.

London Weekend Jan 2010

Friday 22nd January 2010

Late last year I was able to get tickets to The Misanthrope at the Comedy Theatre so planned a mini theatre break to London around it.

I get to London my usual way which is the train from Chester to Euston, but this time there is some problem with the signals and we needed to be diverted via Wolverhampton adding an extra 45 minutes to the journey.
